Sunset Custom Home

Bringing Nature Indoors

Gray's Crossing is proud to host the first-ever Sunset Magazine "High Country Idea House" featured in the October 2007 issue of the magazine.

Drawing on the historic character of Truckee and the open mountain views, this featured property takes its design cues from the breathtaking North Lake Tahoe scenery that surrounds it. The home is full of earthy materials and textures like rammed earth walls and recycled timbers, colors inspired by the ever-changing landscape, natural light from every possible angle and walls and windows that blend with the outdoors. Private retreats for parents, kids, and guests provide serene places to recharge.

This eco-friendly home includes many greenbuilding features, including

  • Rammed earth walls
  • Reclaimed Redwood trim and Douglas Fir structure
  • Recycled content concrete
  • Over 75% replanted native vegetation in landscaping
  • Exterior runnel attached to a 3,200 gallon water cistern
  • Photovoltaic roofing system
  • Low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint

The home was designed by Faulkner Architects and built by Robert Marr Construction.
