I still have big ambitions of climbing and skiing some high peaks in and around the Sierra as well as the annual Pilgrimage up to Mt. Shasta. I had a small window yesterday and took advantage of it with a fun climb and ski of the North Couloir of Mt Emerson in the Buttermilk range just outside of Bishop, CA. We hiked on dirt for a few hours until we hit the snow line, but then had a really nice skin up the drainage and a beautiful climb on soft snow in the couloir. It was such a fun day to get out and enjoy the high mountains in our big playground of the Sierras and has me very eager for all of the upcoming spring and summer activities in the sun.
Old Greenwood Golf Course:
I am also very excited to report that Old Greenwood golf course opened last Friday and it is in some of the best opening conditions you will find. The Director of Agronomy, Jason DeHerrera, has been working around the clock and it shows with the greens rolling at a very healthy speed and putting true. If you don’t have the time to tee it up, or you just want to loosen the muscles, you can pay a daily fee for range use at Old Greenwood to knock of the rust and get the swing lubed back up for the season. Don’t forget about the world class Old Greenwood Golf Academy with Keith Lyford, a top 100 Golf Teacher by Golf Magazine every year since 1998. He offers just about every program you could dream of for golf instruction and game improvement. Keith has an incredible staff with PGA professionals offering private lessons, clinics, group packages, 5-minute tune-ups, corporate golf weeks and much more. If you are an NCGA member, you will be able to play Old Greenwood for $120 in the prime tee time slots of 8:00 to 1:50pm until June 16th.
Gray’s Crossing Golf Course:
Gray’s Crossing will be opening for the season today Friday May 13th. Spring golf is one of my favorite times of the year as the Sierra Crest is still holding snow and offers incredible views once you reach hole # 5 a par 4 that will not disappoint. If you are an NCGA member, you can take advatage of the two course special with Old Greenwood and Gray’s Crossing for $200 from opening until June 16th. Here is a link to the details: NCGA Two Course Special
PJ’s Bar & Grill at Gray’s Crossing actually opened a week before the course on May 6th and they are serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in what I believe is the best outdoor dining in Truckee. After a round of golf, bike ride, or hike, enjoy a beverage around the fire pit and event lawn while taking in the alpenglow and breathtaking views of Mt. Rose and the Carson Range. PJ’s offers something for the entire family with indoor/outdoor seating, sporting events on the multiple televisions, an event lawn for the kids to stretch their legs and classic bar top experience with friendly Bartender’s. Not a bad way to watch the Warriors in the NBA playoffs as well.
If you are a homeowner or landowner, you will most likely find yourself soaking in one of the private his/her sanctuary hot tubs after a gym workout or golf round. The Gray’s fitness center remains open from 7 am to 7pm daily and will extend one hour until 8pm starting Memorial Day weekend. Here is a link to the Gray’s Crossong website: Gray’s Crossing
As for the real estate market, Gray’s Crossing continues to be very active with new construction:
– 36 homes under construction
– 18 with final approval from design review
– 3 in preliminary design
Year to date there has been 6 homes sold in Gray’s Crossing at an average price of $1,241,000. In Q1 with a great start to winter there were 4 homes and 5 homesites sold compared to the same period in 2015 where there were 0 homes and 9 homesites sold. The abundance of snow this winter has translated into more single family home tours and good “off season” activity in Gray’s. Last winter consumers were able to walk bare-land and capitalized on lot purchases to engage in the building process over winter in anticipation of breaking ground this spring.
Q1 – 2015 Gray’s Crossing Q1 – 2016
0 Total Transactions Homes 4
9 Total Transactions Homesites 5
0 Average Price Homes $1,191,000

Pick of the week:
Speaking of Gray’s Crossing, there is currently one re-sale in the Fairway Townhomes that has numerous upgrades and is essentially turn key and ready with the furnishings negotiable. Located within walking distance of the Gray’s fitness center and PJ’s restaurant, this townhome has one of the best locations with it’s proximity to bike trails, downtown Truckee, and is a short drive to lake recreation and numerous ski areas of your choice. This property offers difficult-to-find and unobstructed views of nature and golf course without looking into other townhomes or developments. With great east to southern exposure, the golf course location is hard to beat. In the winter the golf course feels like a wide open expanse backing to snow covered forest land.
